Sen. Huizenga announces committee assignments

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Mark Huizenga on Thursday announced that he will serve as minority vice chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Insurance, and Consumer Protection during the 102nd Legislature.

“Too many families are struggling to afford high prices on everything from energy to eggs,” said Huizenga, R-Walker. “As vice chair of the committee that handles tax issues in the Senate, I will fight to let people keep more of their hard-earned paycheck by passing much-needed tax relief. This panel also deals with insurance matters, and we must ensure auto insurance is affordable and provides needed coverages.”

Huizenga will also serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee, where he will be minority vice chair of the budget subcommittee for the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and a member of the Department of Health and Human Services subcommittee. He will also serve on the Senate Health Policy Committee.

“Over the past several years, we have responsibly put our taxpayer dollars to effective use to improve our state – investing in infrastructure, supporting our communities, and boosting education spending to record levels,” Huizenga said. “I will work to build on that positive record and continue putting people first over growing the size of government.”
