LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Mark Huizenga, R-Walker, issued the following statement after the Legislature sent the governor legislation on Thursday to preserve the state’s tipped wage and enact a workable paid sick leave benefit:
“I came to the Legislature to find common ground on solutions to the problems facing West Michigan families — and that’s exactly what we did in this agreement.
“We listened to the deep concerns of Michigan servers, bartenders, and local restaurant owners from throughout our state and came together to enact a bipartisan solution to save their tipped wage and tens of thousands of good-paying jobs.
“We also reached an agreement on a responsible leave time reform that balances the needs of families, workers and small businesses. It will allow workers to stay home when they’re sick and provide much-needed flexibility to employers.”
