LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Mark Huizenga is encouraging residents of Kent and Ottawa counties to participate in a nature walk along the Grand River on Monday, Sept. 16 with officials from various state agencies and Grand Valley State University.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for GVSU students and community members to explore the diverse wildlife and vibrant plant life along the Grand River while learning about the importance of protecting our state’s clean water and preserving our natural resources,” said Huizenga, R-Walker. “The event is free and open to everyone, and I encourage residents to come out and join us for a memorable day celebrating the wonders of the Grand River — one of West Michigan’s most scenic treasures.”
Huizenga is hosting the event on Sept. 16 from noon to 2 p.m. at the lodge in Grand Ravines North County Park, located at 9920 42nd Ave. in Jenison.
Participating with the senator will be representatives from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, the Department of Natural Resources, and educators from GVSU.
An educational open house begins at noon and the nature walks will start at 12:30 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
“This is about helping people enjoy the outdoors and learn more about the Grand River, which serves as a vital resource for wildlife and families in our community,” Huizenga said.
Huizenga represents the 30th Senate District, which includes the northern half of the city of Grand Rapids; the cities of Coopersville, Rockford and Walker; and the townships of Ada, Allendale, Alpine, Cascade, Grand Rapids, Plainfield, Polkton, Tallmadge, and Wright.
