Huizenga co-sponsors resolution honoring Blue Star Mothers of America

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Mark Huizenga on Thursday co-sponsored a resolution, which was adopted by the Michigan Senate, to honor the Blue Star Mothers of America.

Blue Star Mothers are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians who have a family member actively serving in the military. The organization was originally founded in Flint in 1942 and has grown to every corner of the nation.

“It is hard to overstate the tremendous impact of our Blue Star Mothers in supporting, honoring and caring for our veterans and the brave men and women currently serving our country,” said Huizenga, R-Walker. “This resolution is about recognizing the outstanding and dedicated work of our Blue Stars Mothers — from visiting service members in the hospital to helping support families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

“As someone who has a son currently serving in the Marines, I cannot fully express my deep appreciation and gratitude for all they do for servicemembers and their families.”

Senate Resolution 89 commemorates Feb. 1, 2024, as Blue Star Mother’s Day in the state of Michigan.

The resolution highlighted that the purposes and activities of Blue Star Mothers of America include perpetuating the memory of the men and women who have served the country as members of the armed forces, welcoming home returning veterans, visiting wounded veterans in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, assisting in veterans ceremonies, attending patriotic rallies and meetings, maintaining true allegiance to the government of the United States, caring for the unsupported mothers who gave their sons and daughters to the service of the nation, providing moral support for members, and upholding the American institutions of freedom, justice, and equal rights.
