Sen. Huizenga: We Cannot Ignore the Fentanyl Crisis
Senator Mark Huizenga warns that we cannot ignore the growing fentanyl crisis in our state. Eight Michiganders die of an overdose every day. We will lose three thousand Michiganders to overdoses this year.
Fentanyl is streaming across our southern border and ravaging our communities, from big cities to suburbs and rural villages. If Washington can’t fix our border crisis, we MUST act here at the state capitol to protect Michiganders.
But we need Democrats in the majority to get serious about this crisis. Every day that goes by without action is eight more lives lost. We can’t afford to keep waiting.

During Senator Huizenga’s tour of the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology (WMCAT), Director of Workforce Development Renida Clark gave a demonstration of the training a pharmacy tech would undergo as part of their program.

I had the pleasure of touring the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology, or as it’s more commonly known, WMCAT. At WMCAT, their mission is to provide a culture of opportunity for people to make social and economic progress in their lives and communities.
Last year, I was proud to secure $1 million for WMCAT in our state budget. From this funding, WMCAT will continue to grow its efforts in helping others achieve their individual goals and cultivate their communities.

Sen. Huizenga Reacts to Governor's Budget Proposal
This week, the governor presented a plan that recklessly spends away all of the taxpayer’s money on wasteful spending, while raising taxes on Michigan families who have to pay for it.
I have always been willing to work with my friends on the other side of the aisle to get things done and solve problems for our community. But this plan does nothing to help those struggling with inflation and higher costs of living. It does nothing to actually invest in our roads, pay off debt, save for a rainy day, or spend your money wisely. And it does nothing to solve the problems facing West Michigan families.

As we enter the month of February, we celebrate Black History Month. This is a wonderful time to celebrate and educate ourselves on the great contributions and innovations from those in the African American community. Many individuals like Mayor Parks, Grand Rapids’ first African American mayor, can inspire us to help cultivate and improve our communities.

Once again, the Detroit Lions showed us last Sunday how to play tough and fight for every inch on the field. After defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they are headed to San Francisco to take on the 49ers for the NFC Championship.
As they prepare for this important game, I want to wish the players and coaches the best of luck. Let’s show the 49ers and the entire world that the Detroit Lions are America’s Team.

Last Sunday, the Detroit Lions showed us what true grit and determination can bring. After 32 years, the Lions won their first playoff game, at home, with the help of their ecstatic fan base. Now, they’re back for Round 2! As they prepare for their matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I want to wish the players and coaches the best of luck.

Sen. Huizenga Tours Calvin University School of Nursing
I recently had the privilege of touring the Calvin University’s nursing program with the School of Health Dean Dr. Adejoke Ayoola.
This year, I was able to secure $1 million for Calvin’s workforce development partnership program. This will allow Calvin University to partner with organizations like Exalta Health who provide health and wellness services to those in need.
