Sen. Mark Huizenga, R-Walker, announced Ryan Knight as his new chief of staff on Tuesday. Knight was born and raised in the 30th Senate District and is a graduate of Northern Michigan University with a degree in political science and public administration. Prior to joining Huizenga's office, Knight worked as a public policy field director for the Michigan Realtors, where he served as a liaison for local realtor associations throughout the state. He also previously served as campaign manager and policy advisor for current state Rep. Bryan Posthumus.

Lana Theis, R-Brighton, welcomed members of Blue Star Mothers of America to the state Capitol on Thursday to see the adoption of Senate Resolution 89 to commemorate Feb. 1, 2024, as Blue Star Mother's Day in the state of Michigan.

Sen. Mark Huizenga, R-Walker, welcomed Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom to the state Capitol on Wednesday night as his guest for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's 2024 State of the State address. Winstrom was named as the 15th chief of police for the Grand Rapids Police Department in 2022 after serving in the Chicago Police Department for over 20 years in various patrol, tactical, investigative, and administrative positions.

Sen. Mark Huizenga, R-Walker, addresses the Senate about his resolution to recognize September 2023 as Cholesterol Education Month and Sept. 1, 2023, as Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) Cholesterol Awareness Day. It also urges health care providers to follow the guidelines when treating all cardiovascular disease patients and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to update the state's cardiovascular plan to improve health outcomes for patients.

Sen. Mark Huizenga, R-Walker, welcomed Dr. Anthony Chang, Ph. D. to the Michigan Capitol on Wednesday night as his guest for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's 2023 State of the State address. Chang is CEO and founder of BAMF Health, which is headquartered in the Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Building on Grand Rapids' Medical Mile and last year opened Michigan's first full-body PET-CT scanner – one of only a handful nationwide.

Sen. Mark Huizenga, R-Walker, is formally sworn in as senator for the 30th District for a full term during a ceremony at the state Capitol. Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Elizabeth T. Clement administered the oath of office. Huizenga was joined on the Senate floor for the ceremony by his wife, Kris, daughter and son-in-law Olivia and Tim Osipsov, daughter and son-in-law Elaina Huizenga- Chase and Ben Chase, mother Joyce Huizenga, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Barb and Tom Nawrocki.

Huizenga, R-Walker, presents a tribute to Walker Charter Academy Principal Steve Bagley in recognition of the school being named a Top 10 Charter Elementary School in Michigan by Niche, whose rankings are based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Walker ranked in 10th place and received a grade of A.

Before joining the Senate late last year, Huizenga sponsored House Bill 5286, which would allow the speed limit sign to include lights that flash when workers are at the site and a digital display to indicate the current speed limit. Give 'Em A Brake Safety in Grandville brought the signage to Lansing and provided testimony when the bill was taken up by the Senate Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Alderman presided over the event, in which Smith was promoted from staff sergeant to gunnery sergeant. Huizenga's son Lance Cpl. Blake Huizenga was recruited by Smith. Joining Huizenga and Alderman for the ceremony were Sgt. Maj. Fritz M. Lowe and several of Smith's fellow Marines.

Huizenga's parents Jerry and Joyce Huizenga and father-in-law Tom Nawrocki were also present for the ceremony. Huizenga's son Lance Cpl. Blake Huizenga was unable to attend as he is currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
